What it’s like to get a transgender health care appointment
A transgender woman from Brooklyn, NY is in desperate need of care after she went into cardiac arrest.
She was on the verge of dying when she was put on a ventilator.
After a few weeks in the hospital, she decided to come out.
Now, a doctor told her that she would be the first transgender patient to receive gender confirmation surgery at the medical center where she is treated.
“It’s really scary, but I just want to go back home,” she told NBC News.
The woman told NBC that her doctor told them that they would only be able to perform gender confirmation on transgender patients, not people who have a sex change operation or who have been in a gender confirmation therapy session.
“If you want to come into the hospital with us, you’re going to have to have surgery and be medically changed and have surgery done on your body,” she said.
“You’re going be on a life-changing decision.”
A woman who wants to be a woman for the first time, but cannot legally legally do so, has had to go through a gender affirmation surgery, which was first performed in California.
